Coaxial Feedthroughs

Coaxial FeedthroughsCoaxial feedthroughs consist of two concentric conductor paths which are electrically isolated from each other by an alumina or glass ceramic insulator in between. The inner pin-shaped conductor serves as current carrying  contact and is surrounded by a tubular outside conductor, which is usually at ground potential ("grounded shield"). The outer conductor shields the inner conductor from electromagnetic interference effects coming from outside. We also offer product variations with non-grounded ("floating") shield and / or matched impedance of 50 Ohm for several coaxial feedthroughs. Coaxial feedthroughs can be used universally and are particularly applied for transmitting high frequency signals up to 10 GHz and even beyond.

VACOM offers industry-standard coaxial feedthroughs including subminiature- (SMA), miniature- (BNC, MHV, SHV) and medium-size (N, HN) type. They cover a voltage range from 500 V up to 20 kV. Double ended versions and vacuum compatible plug connectors are available for most types.

SMA - Subminiature Type A

SMA (Subminiature Type A) feedthroughs offer a threaded interface in a subminiature size. Matched impedance designs are also available and are ideally suited for high frequency signal transmission above 10 GHz. Standard SMA feedthroughs are available as single or double ended units.

Type N

Type N feedthroughs are the most frequently used medium-sized connectors for voltages up to 1.5 kV. The threaded coupling enables low noise and increased resistance to shock and vibration. Matched impedance designs are suitable for high frequency signal transmission above 6 GHz. Type N feedthroughs are available as single or double ended units.

Type HN

Type HN series feedthroughs comply with type N feedthroughs but have been designed for higher voltages (up to 7 kV). These designs with matched impedance are ideally suited for high frequency signal transmission or fast rise time pulses for data transmission.

BNC

BNC feedthroughs are the most popular miniature connectors and can transmit voltages up to 500 V DC. BNC feedthroughs are equipped with quick connect / disconnect bayonet couplings. Matched impedance designs for the transmission of high frequency signals are also available. BNC feedthroughs are offered as single or double ended units with grounded or floating shield.

MHV (Miniatur High Voltage)

MHV (Miniature High Voltage) feedthroughs - also characterized as high voltage BNC feedthroughs - are designed for high voltage applications of BNC feedthroughs between 500 V and 5 kV DC. MHV feedthroughs are also offered as single or double ended units with grounded or floating shield.

SHV (Safe High Voltage)

SHV (Safe High Voltage) feedthroughs have a higher level of interface characteristics than MHV feedthroughs, including their individual identification. The outer contact ground connection is maintained through the centre contact retaining ring. The centre contact is recessed to prevent shock hazard during disconnection. Different designs are available for voltages from 5 kV to as 20 kV DC.
