Orbital Welding

Weldseam
  • Fully-automated TIG welding, full penetration of tube-to-tube connections
  • Consistently high quality of weld seam
  • No annealing colours on vacuum side
We have well-proved welding programs and experiences in welding tubes with diameters 6.35 mm, (0.25“), 8 mm and 12.7 mm (0.5“). Other processes can be developed and documented customer-specific.

Orbital welding is a TIG welding process and is performed by us without filler material. It is a fully-automated process which means that the arc is mechanically routed and moves 450 ° around the tubes which are to be joined without interruption. The tubes are inserted in a welding gun which has to be adjusted to the component diameter. The welding gun is filled with shielding gas and completely encloses the tube so that the outside of the weld seam is protected from oxidation. At the same time backing is necessary from the inside. It is necessary to use a welding gun adjusted to the outer diameter. The geometry of the welding gun only allows to join components with the same outer diameter. The compact size of the welding gun makes it possible to join in a small amount of space. The free programming of the parameters enables the production of smooth, very clean weld seams. Because of that the welding process is suitable for very clean welding with low particle generation for UHV and UCP applications.
